It’s Saturday at The Grass Stain Guru and that can mean only one thing — time to play Mystery Critter! Let’s have a little fun and play a guessing game, designed to help us all learn a bit more about the wildlife we are lucky enough to share the planet with. 

So, hope you have your thinking caps on, my beloved readers! Y’all are getting so good at this. I keep having to come up with more clever clues! OK, let’s play. And remember — no cheating! 

CRITTER CLUES:  

  • I (or a close cousin) am found throughout North America;
  • I am nocturnal;
  • I’ve been known to try and blend-in;
  • I make my home in trees and shrubs; and
  • I have a lot to say!

You will probably hear today’s Mystery Critter rather than see it! But fear not — they are out there, and such a delight to see. Ah, the giddy excitement I get at picking a new critter for my Saturday post. I know, I am a goober! That’s rightThe goddesses "finding" the Mystery Critter kids, it’s time to play Mystery Critter. A time when we get together to learn more about wildlife and have a bit of fun in the process!

Thinking caps on? I keep wanting to raise the stakes a little — I think you might be getting too good at solving these! OK — here we go. And remember — no cheating!

CRITTER CLUES:

  • I am found throughout most of North America;
  • My habitat is wide-ranging — from cities to meadows;
  • I live year round in Hawaii (Aloha!) and Southern California;
  • I’m a bit sluggish in winter; and
  • I have one of the coolest wildlife stories out there!

Fun wildlife facts. Check. Desire to stump my readers. Double check. Must be Why did the chickens cross the road?Saturday! That’s right kids, it’s time to play Mystery Critter. Let’s have some fun with my little game to test your wildlife knowledge and inspire you to find the wild in your world.

Put on those thinking caps and let’s get to it. It’s Week #15 in the series — your nature detective skills must be getting quite impressive about now. Let’s see if you are “smarter than the average bear!” And remember — no cheating!

CRITTER CLUES:

  • My body-type is the only of its kind in North America;
  • My preferred habitat has sandy soil;
  • I range throughout much of the south east of the USA;
  • I have 4 young per year, and an amazing reproduction process; and
  • I enjoy insects, crayfish, eggs, and carrion.

While it is not as widespread as many species, this Mystery Critter ranks as one of the coolest in the animal kingdom in my book (read: one of my personal faves!). Fascinating and comical, they are a sight to see! Even of you don’t spot today’s critter, Mother Nature has something fun for you to discover right outside your front door. So grab the kids or a pair of binoculars if you have them, and go take a look.

It’s Saturday, which means on thing around here — time to play Mystery Critter — a little Big spider with Baby Greek goddessgame to test your wildlife knowledge and inspire you to find the wild in your world. And let me give you a hint: the answer is NOT Yogi Bear (although, who doesn’t love a pic-a-nic basket?!).

So, are you ready, my wildlife detectives? Put on those thinking caps and let’s get to it. Let’s see if you are “smarter than the average bear!” And remember — no cheating!

  • I hibernate;
  • My habitat is yards, woodlands, and forest edges;
  • I eat seeds, vegetation, slugs, nuts, and carrion;
  • I have 3-5 young per year; and
  • I (or one of my “cousins”) am found throughout the country and in Canada.

Odds are you have seen this Mystery Critter before. They are a favorite of kids and kids-at-heart, alike. But you gotta be quick! Grab the kids and a pair of binoculars and get out there! As it is our Saturday ritual here at My Green Side, I have cooked up a little Where is that Mystery Critter?nut for you to crack. So, let’s get down to it, nature detectives — let’s play Mystery Critter!

  • I am roughly 30 inches tall;
  • My habitat is rivers, lakes, and marshes;
  • I am a fish eater;
  • I have 2-3 young per year; and
  • I am considered a wildlife “success” story.

Happy Saturday, everybody.  That means only one thing  here at My Green Fall colorsSide — it’s time to play Mystery Critter! Let’s have a little fun. Read the clues below and then make your guess. This is a great way to introduce kids to the wonders of wildlife and help get them excited to explore the natural world.

  • You will find me in wooded areas and forests;
  • I feast on the leaves of shrubs and trees (hazelnuts are one of my favorites);
  • I lay eggs;

It’s Saturday, which means it’s time to play Mystery Critter here at MyHunting for Mystery Critter Green Side! A little game to put your wildlife knowledge to the test and have a little fun learning about some of the amazing critters we share the planet with. Today’s Mystery Critter was selected by my Twitter friend, Marie.

  • I have an elongated body;
  • My gestation period is 8 1/2 to 9 1/2 months;
  • I am currently being reintroduced into the Midwest, but can be found in the North and along the East coast of the US;
  • I am brown; and
  • I am a very good swimmer.

So, put on your thinking caps and let’s see if you can solve this week’s mystery. By the way, today’s critter was picked by one of my Twitter friends, @MojoCulture. Thanks for the help, Michael! OK, let’s get to it, folks!

  • I range in color from brown to black, depending on where I live;
  • One of my sub-species is on the Endangered Species List;
  • I can be found throughout a large portion of North America;
  • My range is roughly 10 – 15 square miles; and
  • I am mainly solitary.

A fun little The goddesses and their cousin hunt for the Mystery Crittergame I like to play with my beloved readers — a time to put your wildlife knowledge and love of games to to good use, and to encourage you to get outside and see what nature has in store in your neck of the woods.

OK, my favorite detectives — time to solve this week’s Mystery Critter. AreThe goddesses and their cousin hunt for the Mystery Critter you a Sherlock or Watson — or a bit of both?

New to the site? Each Saturday here at My Green Side, we play a little wildlife mystery game. Just a bit of fun to learn more about wildlife and help encourage people to get outside and see what nature they can find nearby. And I never make it too easy, because — well, where is the fun in that?! If you have kids, include them in the game, or make up one of your own. Kids love mysteries!
